Valentine's Day Decor and Celebrating Ideas

Updated: Oct 13

When it's about any celebrations I get so excited. Home decor is my passion and any occasion to refresh, update, or celebrate is such a joy to me.

January is all about New Year, fireworks, new colors, winter decor, etc! Then we turn the page to February where I'll stop for now, another opportunity to have fun and add extra LOVE to our homes!

Where to begin? Our main door, doorstep, and porch, any place that welcomes your guests to your home.

Wreaths, door mats, candles, little lights, Don't overdo it, though. Decoration is not about filling every spot with all you can find about the season. This is to enhance your year-long decorations.

Here's my Do and Don't: This is a no. It's overdone and looks busy and just flashy. Maybe it would work with fewer items.

My take is below. I tried to be cohesive. When the outcome is not what you wish for is usually because you chose a lot of items that can be pretty by themselves but they don't go well together.

Next, your foyer. Add a little something that tells everyone: Hey! Valentine's Day is here! This celebration does not necessarily involve replacing rugs, lamps, etc like Christmas. But if that's what makes you happy, go for it! Here I suggest what I like to do.

Now let's add Valentine's Day touches!

This is what I mean, subtle touches, you want it classy. Yes! Fresh flowers or botanicals. There are great qualities to invest in. No, they don't look cheap. They are awesome, just look for great quality. A little something like this heart-shaped mini sculpture. Candles and voila!

Your powder room. Here I like to put some hand soap and lotions evoking the season, adding pinks as it's another color for this celebration. Tulips, Nest fragrances, a cute trinket dish, and a Turkish hand towel, love them!

Your living room, either in your formal area or your family room, here is the place where we spend a lot of time so this is not for your guests to see how cute your house is, this is for you! Your family, your people. Interior design cannot be a cold area that doesn't tell you about who lives there, yeah, you can do both, make it gorgeous yet livable.

What to put? You are right: pillows are the answer. Easy! There are other subtle accents like small felt garlands, or candles. Add cute throws, especially because coziness makes cold days nicer so, this is their moment!

Look at these beauties, love them all! If you love them, too, click on each image to shop.

Now that you are there, sitting cozily, wouldn't you love having a cup of hot chocolate? So now what? Love mugs for everyone. You can get a special one for every member of the family. Make a coffee station for all year and when seasons like this come, fill them with hot cocoa, marshmallows, special edition coffee, and tea! There are nice tea boxes to have them all categorized. Also, a must, napkins. I like to have cloth napkins for special occasions, but for everyday use paper napkins with the celebration motif.

For as much as these are not extreme changes or additions to the home decor, my intention here is to live and enjoy the small things in life like sharing a cup with your favorite war beverage and biscotti, for example with the people you care the most about or maybe enjoying your self as Italians like to say "Dolce Farniente", yes like you saw Julia Roberts did in Eat, Pray, Love. Indulge yourself with a great ambiance if you live on your own or share those moments with those who live with you.

I encourage you maybe not to go crazy decorating for every season, but add as I said some extra love to your home, thinking that that extra love, in reality, is for those who live there. Maybe you think people at home do not notice or appreciate it, but when you are creating that warmth, they feel it and when is gone they miss it and long for it, so don't think your efforts are appreciated if they are. You see? You are creating an environment to cherish and enjoy! That's why I love interior design, Intentionally or not, you are designing your lifestyle.

If a person does not take care of their home, buys whatever just because it's necessary and practical, and doesn't care if the pillow matches or not, I believe that something is missing there, and I'm not talking about an empty wall without art. It's missing self-love and little interest in creating a nicer place for themselves and their loved ones.

And talking about it, what about your bedroom? Your shelter! Well, of course, decorate it with hearts and red and pink! Please! Same with your bathroom.

It's nice to put a little something on every bedroom, kids love it even if they're older, believe me! Don't forget your hallways consoles, chairs, chest, anything you have there.

Again nothing big this is all about details that make your life sweeter.

I'm so happy to contribute to the world what I feel I can do best, helping others create a lifestyle they'll love and cherish for years to come!

Happy Valentine's Month!

Your designer,
